i think nissan felt the qr was failure hence why it is so short lived

Concerns
[edit]Manufacturing, design, and assembly flaws
The QR25DE sold in the United States has been subject to a significant number of problems in its lifetime. A variety of mechanical flaws have led to numerous technical service bulletins, recalls, repairs, and outright engine replacements.
Vehicles with the QR25DE may ingest material from a damaged pre-catalyst resulting in increased oil consumption.[7]
Power valve screws in the intake manifold may become loose and result in unstable idling or power loss.[8]
In June 2006, it came to Nissan's attention that approximately 85,000 Altimas and 2,000 Sentra SE-Rs equipped with the QR25DE and built between January and May 2006 may experience unusually high oil consumption. This can lead to premature engine failure and possibly a fire. While Nissan investigates the problem, owners of the affected vehicles are being advised to check their oil frequently (every 700 mi (1,100 km) [1127 km]), and dealers have been instructed to place the affected vehicles on sales hold.[9]
The revised QR25DE found in the 2007+ Sentras, Altimas, etc. may have the above issues fixed.

Come on guys, we aren't really measuring rod length/width or how you stroke things around here...

The QR was good for the transmission it came with. With that, the B13/14 guys are outlasting the Spec V guys....

Seems like there is a problem here. Nissan likes to back-track...

I'll post the same thing here, that I did there, since you know, I am on both forums since I've owned both cars.

The B15 lacks the support the SR does. Simple as that.

Also, the QR, at least the popular one, the first gen, has issues, and they are known.

Would I say one is better than the other, no. You didn't see Nissan use the damn SR in half of it's vehicle line up, but the QR is being whored out as an all around engine package.

It's not meant to be a performance engine, but coupled with a decent suspension, brakes, and a close ratio 6 speed, it makes a sentra pretty damn fun. The same recipe used on the original SE-R to make it fun.

Also, the SR was already out, and had a lot of R&D behind it during your "peak tuner market" phrase, the QR came out, and saw many failures in that same time due to Nissan's poor design.

Which is exactly what turned away companies from getting serious with making parts for it and doing R&D, they dont want to worry about an engine having major mechanical issues while trying to R&D parts such as headers, intake manifolds, pullies, flywheels, cams, valvetrain, and tuning options. Not a good time at all for the QR to be released especially having that many issues right off the bat.

To the comment said about the SR's having issues in their first generation with sludge and crap? Seriously? Ive yet to ever see this. We all know oil products in the early 90's are not near what they are today as well. Every engine back then probably suffered from carbon buildup and sludge especially if you didnt maintain your vehicle well. Look at all the early 90's v8's, every one of them ive taken apart or done work on had absolutely horrible sludge problems. Thats what you call shitty oils used back then and mixed with not changing your oil regularly.

But ive seen way more SR's with 100k,200k,and some over 300k with the original engines in them. My first se-r, 234k original motor, no sludge at all under the valvecover but was ran low on oil by the previous ownere because of leaks, current se-r, 110k original motor had rod knock on all 4 rods because the kid smashed the oil pan on a parking block and continued to drive it with no oil pressure. Spun all 4 rod and 3 mains. Engine inside was beautiful still.

93 se-r i bought later, 256k miles all original very well maintained, Engine now has close to 300k on it now. One owner before me, old lady that maintained it very very well.

93 nx2000 - 189k miles original motor, awesome condition inside and out, needed some basic maintenance stuff but clean strong running original motor.

I could go on and on. The fact is the SR never had near the problems that the QR had. Plain and simple. Matter fact, ill go out on a limb and say at the time of release all the way through when they used it, im sure the SR20 was a real good money maker for Nissan as they didnt have to do much warranty work on them because they really did have relatively zero issues and never anything major. The same cannot be said about the QR.

I don't know why people would take Ashtons words like the while forum says it. I mean, there is a reason why it's everyone against Ashton at the convention!!

edit: LSX owns ALL!

Hey i wasnt the only one involved in this. Matter fact wasnt even the first to turn it ugly. You can thank Chapdick for that one. lol.

And the reason why everyone will be sat down with an L in their hand one by one if they dare at the Convention.

Starting a thread to get the already raging debate away from a thread with a different topic so that original thread can continue on topic is not a reason to call someone out for starting shit. It is the right thing to do.
