If that were the case, they (Joe and Rick) would have a strong point, because that's a huge list of engine components.

The problem is, as far as I know, the large majority of us do not utilize aftermarket pistons or rods (we can thank Nissan for that). Almost none of us use aftermarket cranks. You could argue those components came from the RWD world or wouldn't have happened if it were not for the RWD platform. However, by and large we don't use those components. Nissan gave us great OEM FWD stuff to work with.

The cams? Those don't swap over. No dice there.

The head studs? Okay maybe... Except the popular FWD head studs are either OEM stock, a Honda intended product, or a GTi-R engine specification. So no.

Headgaskets? We use stock or we use OEM FWD SR20VET gaskets on 95% of our builds.

Injectors? Again, stock or OEM FWD turbo, or Subaru STI for the huge majority.

Seems we make due because Nissan provided us with great stock parts to choose from in the FWD turbo world, or we steal from Honda or Subaru.
The RWD SR20 guys don't help us one bit the way I see it. If anything, we give them a baller variable valve head to use.

Are for you to say "they don't know much about cars" just shows how much of an ignoramus you are.

Bro relax, my comment was not directed at you or all qr guys, I said most, I've meet you in person before so stop acting like your tougher then what you really are.
If Chapz did say most SR guys are younger, then that I don't agree with. But whatever.

I always thought you were really cool person so let just leave it as a mis-understading. And don't just come on this forum if your going to defend the QR. Leave it on b15u

Ben, the cams are swappable from rwd to fwd by simply switching out the dowel pins on the front. The exhaust cam even on the rwd still have the slot for the distributor on the back side of the cam. JWT S4's are easily swappable into a rwd motor and Ive done several of them. Just have to swap the longer dowel on the front.

Aftermarket cranks, yeah nobody uses those unless doing a stroker motor. But like you said back in the day the common thing was to just throw a metal headgasket on and some studs and boost the hell out of the stock motor and people were making 500+ pretty reliably just with those two items.

Now its more common to build the bottom end with aftermarket internals because there are advantages to it over the stock stuff, lighter forged aluminum pistons that can take more abuse if detonation does occur, stronger lighter rods and aftermarket better bearings. Mainly this is because aftermarket internals are soo cheap now. You can get a piston/rod combo CP/Eagle for 740 bucks brand new, 110 for the bearings and 80 for a vet gasket for 150 for a cosworth gasket, 120 for some good studs (non old model arps) and you can be boosting worry free 450-500whp all day long without a thought in your mind that the bottom end wont hold.

Also I have 250k on my SE, can the same be said about the QR without having the motor replaced a few times already?

Well, point taken then. I still need to see this to believe it. =D

As you said, JWT developed those cams for the FWD crowd.
The rest of the cams available I'm sure we'd have to attribute to the RWD need.

True, but like they can use the jwt cams we can use the tomei cams, solid lifters and so on that were offered for the rwd guys.

And the SE's came with the worst SR20's in history (USDM Roller Rockers)

It sure sounded like it was directed to the entire B15 community!

Seeing as you have met me in person you should know that I am a straight shooter and as cool as they come. So am I not allowed to defend something I have been supporting for so many years? I should only support it on my home forum and not this one?

They were reliable though. Just think if they had either kept the sr20 or put the SR20VE 20v with 6 speed how many more fwd sr enthusiasts would there be and where would our VE aftermarket be right now. Not only that think of how much money Nissan would have saved not having to recall all those QR's and fix them under warranty.

And not for a second have you stopped to think why they discontinued the VE? To change with the times, to keep up with environmental restrictions, to do something with newer tech and so on...

You think this HUGE worldwide auto manufacturer didn't think about it a million times before doing it? Ok they fucked up a little bit, BUT...they kept on and still are making improvements.

Isn't the 2JZ-GTE a great motor? Why did toyota stop making it? See where I'm going? ALl good things must come to an end to make room for newer and "better" things.
