non-lsd case to lsd conversion possible??
Okay, got a free trans from a 94 g20 non lsd, I have a 96 g20 lsd that has a cracked bell housing. My question, is it possible to just swap the case cover to fit the lsd in the non-lsd trans?

Shot in the dark I know, haven't had a non lsd trans apart so Idk if the lsd is to big for the bell housing. I have to replace the seals in the free trans anyways so thought I'd ask. Just trying to get by till I finish my other build.

i dont think so. There's definite design differences to accommodate the LSD. Can you just weld the cracked bellhousing?

Wingman, in short the trans has broken studs and a hole where I tried to drill a pilot through.

Morgans, I have the lsd cover, just a bellhousing from a non lsd trans. Ill find out if it fits tomorrow I just wonder if anyone has tried before.

Nope, I understand what your wanting to do. Swap all your lsd trans parts into the non lsd bellhousing and use the lsd rear case.

Not going to work. There are height differences on how the diff sits in the front case/bellhousing. The non lsd doesnt have the depth and you wont be able to get the lsd rear case on. It comes up short from bolting to the bellhousing and the rear case comes into contact with the ring gear because of that height difference.

Not going to work. Tried it just to see and thats what I found.

Thanks for this tip my friend wanted to try this myself....But if you got 2 of the same style gearboxes one being non lsd and the other lsd will the gear stacks be interchangeable?

As long as the final drives are the same, yes they are directly swappable. Some of the year g20's have the same final drive even in the non lsd. I know for a fact the 99 p11 trans that is non lsd uses the same final drive as well as some of the p10's. Look at the gearstack worksheet in the information library/how to section.

Thanks ashton, I've got both trans here at the shop.. about to start breaking down the non lsd. Saved me the headache of trying haha

Vadim, I've read that post before, just from the pictures it looks like it could work.

Gotta look for the hump. Lotsa companies selling the JDM transes w/o LSD and they have no idea that they really are worthless to us.
