Another Oil Leak Thread
My 91 Se-r has been leaking oil for a few months now i thought i fixed it will resealing the oil pan but sadly it started back again. The car is on ramps right now and I got under it and poked around found a couple things: one the hose right after the power steering cooler appears to be leaking, two my oil pressure sending unit is leaking (highport that was changed out to oiling system from a b14 i believe so the filter is on the back bottom), and a mystery one that appears to be coming from some where just under where the passenger side motor mount bolts to the block.

My main question is, is there something around that area that could be leaking oil or is it probably just the front main seal? It isn't loosing a lot, but any is too much to me. If I had to guess between 1/4 and 1/2 quart every other week and its making quite a mess of everything getting all over the pulleys and other things. Any way any advice would be appreciated if some one has had the same thing.

spray down that area with some brake clean, get rid off al the oil gunk and crud, and see where it seeps from, should give you a better idea.

Around the motor mount on the passenger side you really only have 3 things that could leak, the front seal, headgasket, valve cover. Cleaning the engine and running it for a bit should show you where.

Get some UV dye and a uv flashlight from amazon for like 10 bucks. Instantly find out where its leaking

Everyone is right here.... There are only a few places for the oil to leak where the op described it so cleaning and letting it run should result in you finding the leak but but uv dye is a great tool when it is a tough leak to find. It is something that is cheap and can save you hours sometimes, well at least many minutes and headaches.

i used the oil dye before. it works well. it is a lot easier if you have a lift so you can get a better look

Sorry for not updating but i haven't spent much time with it. Pretty sure its the front seal my question now is would it be a good idea to try and tighten everything down another half turn or so to see if that fixes it or is that a bad idea? Thinking about buying another 1991-94 sentra 4 door as a spare car so i can tear my se-r down and do it right. I just don't have the time for it to be down.

You can overtighten bolts which can potentially cause more problems. I'd advise against that. Really need to find out where the oil is coming from to know what to do. If it's the front seal, just replace the front seal. If it's still leaking after that, keep looking until you know where. Randomly cranking on bolts IMO is just as bad as throwing parts at a car.

if you use synthetic oil the u/v trick works, you can spray degreaser on it as well and it turns purple.

yeah i figured overtightening would be bad didnt want to crack anything. Just been using regular oil no synthetic. I guess I need to really track it down but to me any way there is nothing else in the immediate area so I'd say its the front seal. Looks like a pita to replace, have to pull the engine?
