Im certified safety and emissions so I do my own . We have countys in pa that dont do emissions on 95 below cars . I dont put many miles in my b13 every year so it get exempted under 5k miles or less driven . So no sniffer test ! When i lived in MA they didnt have 5k exempt so i would use another car to pass tail pipe smog ... Shhhhhh ! MA now did away with 95 and older cars for emissions testing and just do a ob2 plug in check on 96+ cars . I guess they had all kinds of problems with the stupid dyno testing and it cost shop owners too much money for the equipment .

I just pass the tailpipe test. JWT ecu & all... Just make sure to get the cat hot before you go

What about the "I pass emissions by making the car run good" option? That's my trick.

In the past year or so IL stopped roller sniffing pre OBDII.
The entire fleet is exempt .... WOOT!

Hang up & Drive!
94 BMW 530iT&A ‘Helga’ 166K ( Shaky and shaky *sigh* )
92 BMW 325i ‘Rolf’ 203K ( War horse *smile* )
85 Toyo MR2 ‘Jerry’ 140K ( Way too loud *shakes head* )
94 Datsun Sentra LE 'Bob' 41K ( just breaking in *grin* )

I live near Atlanta, GA. They do testing on 86+ for emissions. Visual and sniffer for 95 below, and 96 up also includes OBDII test as well. I'm registered in a non emissions county near savannah. I took all of my emissions off while down there, and I'm not putting all of that crap back on. You can gain an exempt status on any car in Atl, but you must first spend at least $900 trying to get it emissions worthy.

i live in SW Washington and we have a 25 year old rule here....after 25 years no deq at all and up till obd2 it's just a sniffer test....use to put you on rollers for it but not the last 2 times i deq'd.....they just had me rev to about 2500 for like 45 seconds.....my cat was nice and hot so i breezed through but for the obd2 guys they just plug into the port.....not too sure how good there equipment is tho.....i know any cel's for emission stuff is a fail.
if you're address is far enough out of town no deq for anything tho

The price of older Camrys and Maximas jumped up after January 2011. A lot of guys have bought OBD1 cars because they do not have CEL's

Maryland (I live in central MD), recently switched from the standard roller dyno tail pipe test to a simple idle tailpipe test for OBDI. For OBDII, they scan for codes. I registered my 1991 with historic tags which make it exempt from testing. My 1993 does not yet qualify for historic tags (must be 20 years old), so I have to make my VE pass the tailpipe test. This is easier than passing the dyno test which has been a real challenge in the past.
