oh noes - blower motor?
Went out to warm up the vehicle this morning - no fan on any speed 1-4. Anyone have an idea what to look for first? If it's the blower motor, is it a nightmare to replace?

Blower motor is not so bad to get to. Resistor is easy to get to. I guess it could be the HVAC console lever too, and that's a little bit of a pain in the butt. I'm sure there's some relay it could be? Check the fuse(s) first.

Edit, it works on settings 1-3, not 4. So it's the resistor. Would the blower motor be worth replacing at 320K? Are they expensive?

It is indeed the resistor, no question whatsoever, Greg V can hook you up.

Note that the new resistor may not look exactly like the one you currently have installed. Nissan changed the design, however the new one will in fact work just fine. That took a phone call to Greg to confirm when he sent me a new resistor. He was right, it worked just fine.

Not sure why (if) you need a new blower motor, but Greg could quote you on that as well. Andreas might have a used one (?).

I think I'll just snag the resistor for now, my fans seem to blow pretty good. Watch it die after I replace the resistor, heh.

Usually when the resistor dies, the failure mode is the exact opposite of what you're describing. Usually positions 1-3 do nothing, and position 4 works. This is because position 4 basically by-passes the resistors (full fan speed). It's possible the by-pass portion of the resistor is what has failed though, and a new resistor will be your fix.

Like Shawn said, the newly designed resistor looks different, and I think even has one less electrical contact, but it works fine.

They are very cheap, and it is worth replacing for sure even at 320k miles.

Oops. Ben is right.

When my resistor(s) died (I'm on my third) it was 1-3 NOT working. The only speed that worked was number 4.

Maybe it is the motor? Dunno.

Weird, I'd still ask Greg V.

Erm, it started working again? It's a lot warmer out now than it was this morning. Now all four speeds work.

Could be crud in the four-position lever on the 4th position only and moving it around has cleared up some of the crud on the contact?

Don't rule out a dead Japanese drifter's ghost trying to fuck with you.

Mine is kinda wierd also when the AC is on 1-3 works 4th speed the AC kicks off and just the fans blows. I have to see if the heater does the same tonight.
