Thread: coolant leak, what and where to look

This I've never heard before. Is there an explanation behind it?



This was my first thought, voltage issues.

had this same exact problem happen to me at one point. it would fluctuate all over the damn place added coolant and it was good to go.

I edited my post on that but if it has a air pocket it "usauly" goes up in temps not down . Down would lead me to belive it has a voltage loss or or bad conections at the sensor . As of you unplug it the gauge should drop down below cold . But you do have a leak so fix that issue first and bleed all the air out the system .

at speed if the air pocket gets to the rad it gets cooler. it only will happen in winter months any other time you would overheat.

How does the engine get cooler? You'd have trouble cooling properly with air in the radiator, causing the engine to overheat

key word winter months and it is that time in the north east

I'm just not understanding or familiar with the concept. As I'm reading it, it seems as though air is cooling better than coolant itself, and that doesn't make sense to me.

The crazy thing is the Autometer guage is steady. Now when you say change the plug, you are talking about the guage plug or the CTS?

I just swapped out temperature switches. The old one was very loose at the base. The new one scared me for a minute because it did not not rise as fast. It did after a few minutes (Beck Arnley piece). I assume everytime the motor vibrated, the switch would lose contact. I will watch it and report back. Waterpump next. Now if I could find where the old one fell...
