I believe that is the only concern. But they say that using a small amount of acetone shouldn't be able to do that much damage.

Dunno though, my sludge monster doesn't care, so thats why I don't mind testing things like this

I just watched an episode of Mythbusters a few days ago dedicated to products that are supposed to bump up mpg. Acetone did nothing. There are too many variables to really get a real result IMO.

Supposibly Acetone has a higher octane rating. So lower probably would suffice.

Also I just found another page. Basically it says this method works with NON ethanol gas... WEIRD!

I don't see any MPG changes in anyone's "results" that can't simply be explained by a variance in driving patterns. I can change my mileage by the same if not more just by changing where and when I drive. Nothing conclusive here as to the affect of acetone...

A test was done by a Australian company on ethanol blend fuel, i think it was e10. They put it in a s13 sr20det, stock on 98 octane BP gas was around 220kw atw, with the e10, it went down to 195. With tuning, more timing, more fuel, same boost, it put out 243kw atw.

The same mag also did some quite good testing on the dyno with various octane boosters, on a similar car. They used a selection of common octane boosters, using an external fuel tank so that it could be cleaned between products. A couple of the boosters gave good results, once again with tuning for best power. The winner for them was Toluene, they could use up to 50% with pump gas, and made massive power gains.

I think it will be the same situation with Acetone, octane booster, Toluene etc, putting it in a stock car makes less power, so you have to put your foot down harder. I know of a number of people who have put e10 in moderatly tuned cars here and reported noticibly less fuel economy. We tuned my 20v on e10, and it ran great, put Mobil 98 in it and it ping'd all over the rev range.

I havent been able to dyno mine yet, but def looking forward to giving it some tuning and setup on the dyno.

I'll keep an eye out in my collection of mags for the article and post it up if i find it.

^^ Interesting studies!

E10 is good for tuner because it is like Race Gas at half the price. But E10 is terrible on gas mileage. We are talking about a 10-20% MPG drop!

Now I wonder if thats why we didn't get good results with Acetone... because E10 is now present in all fuels in the States
