Thread: Tranny is down because of missing bolts

I was really pissed off and disappointed...went to my mechanic to check tranny gear oil level as the oils seals on the cv were leaking, after leaving the shop i was about to shift to 2nd gear and heard a loud bang!

put the car on a ramp and the rear part of the tranny got lower, to find out that out of the 4 tranny bolts on the rear 1 was only in and it broke! , and half of the bolt was left inside the tranny case...

i called my buddy which was the previous owner of the car wtf is going on??!! 3 bolts were missing, and the other holse lost their thread..how could the guy who put the engine in missed them! talkng about negligence

now we had to pull the tranny apart and it was sent to the machine shop just to take out the bolt that was left on the case...

but wait theres more... the input shaft seal was leaking too....cv boot on the right is ripped and tie rod is busted...

wil change the gear oil tomorrow as well because the old oild was so thick like barbecue sauce

Moved. I wouldn't say its negligent... this happens a lot. They back themselves out after lots of vibration if they aren't torqued a little past spec. I've had this happen before... but normally since there is no stress on the bolts, you can literally just take a screwdriver and spin the remaining piece of the bolt out.

I had to drill 2 out and tap em with the trans in the car. Needless to say it was not fun, but at least I can shift into 2nd, 4th and reverse again

I shudder when I hear about people leaving out some of the (15?) transmission bolts because they are just too lazy to put them in there. And hey, you don't need all 15 do you?

Usually this happens to the bolts that are going through the rear motor mount that connect to the trans.

I have the car up and running again

4 bolts were back, 2 on the bracket, 2 to the housing

1 bolt would be missing,since it is there is no hole for it in the bracket, im quite sure the bracket is not for the SR20 but for the GA rather...

pls tell me if your bracket is different

one more thing the bracket is like an inch apart from the bolts...we had to increase the lenght of the bolts and put spacers

Yeah doesnt look like an SR bracket at all. Looks like someone tried to do an sr swap into an originally ga powered car and didnt change out crossmembers and mounts.
