98 and on also stopped installing the upper timing chain guide because of the tensioner update.

I do not remove the tensioner, I use a wooden block cut to the dimensions as per JWT instructions.

Two zip ties on each gear is a good choice. I change one cam at a time so typically my install is about 90 minutes.

I didn`t read any bad advise above....and the wooden block tool from the JWT site works like a champ! Me and lynch have done cams a few time with it...haha

Only bad advice i saw was not stopping at tdc, yes you dont have to but its better to especially since there will be slack on the chain. Better to have it at TDC so that you know 100% that things are lined back up properly.

Also, yes remove the tensioner. Makes life much easier. I could see it being a real PITA without removing it to do the job.

Other than that, its pretty easy and straight forward. I dont even use zip ties on any of the ones i do. I just verify that the dowells are at 10 oclock on the intake and 12 oclock on the exhaust and motor is at TDC, and 20 pins between the dots on the gears. When you do them as much as I do you tend to get a good feel for them.

I just set mine up where the timing marks of both cams are actually on the chain, then I clean it and mark it with a paint pen on the chain and on the gear at the same spot, so I can remove the cam with the gear. Just makes it easier for my impact to get a hold of it. I also use a bungee hooked to the hood to hold the chain up. there's a dowel at the bottom near the crank gear that keeps it from falling off the bottom.

crack loose ALL of your bolts before you take any of them out. remove and install cams caps evenly across the cam!! I've snapped a cam before cuz I forgot. luckily it was a crappy cam I shouldn't even have been using anyway, and i had spares.

add oil to your cam journals before you torque everything down and start it.. and dont forget to put your tensioner back in and valve cover back on lol!

It's really easy. You just upload to a file/pic hosting site, then copy and paste the link from the pic you uploaded to this when you're posting in a thread. I use this ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting it's easy and free.
