B13 Heater Control switch
What is the deal with the heater control selector in these cars everyone I pickup used, 1-2 of the settings work out of the 4. I also found mine with the internals melted.....is the problem the switch it self or my wiring.

I replaced my dash board today with a good one and started to take a look at this, but decided not to. My 1,2,and 3 works, so I'll be good. Do you have pics of the said melt down? Heard about this from reading on the OG forum. If your 4 does not work, it has NOTHING to do with the resistor. The resistor does not even operator speed 4 for the people that are wondering.

The resistors tend to fail. Alot. When it happens, only the highest (blower) setting works. If you're replacing the HVAC controls, you're not solving the problem. Start by replacing the resistor. It's a 2" "card" behind the glovebox.

Well I still want to see a pic of this speed 4 melt down. So replacing the HVAC controls will do the job if you have a known working resistor if the replacement HVAC doesn't already have speed 4 melt down?

I don't have pictures MR because I scrapped that thing long time ago, If you know what the switch looks like alone separated from the control panel the switch it self had a bubble the size of a grape coming out of it.....matter of fact it also started to melt into the control panel as well, I had to take the switch out in pieces just to remove it.

I wonder if I can pick up that ressistor new from Gspec? I really don't want to put another used one in there, thank goodness that thing didn't start a fire back there I'd be screwed.

My first NX had a melted speed switch.
It looked like it had something spilled on it....like coffee or coke?
My theory is the cup holder location allows your drink to splash in there when you hit bumps or stop fast.

If the resistor is bad it will only work on 4 normally,as the resister is there to make it slow down.
You can see the contacts on the speed switch if you take the HVAC controls out.

I'll go take pics of my 2 melted dash switches.....i can't figure out what the deal is.....right now i have the heater wired up to a getto switch that is getting hot and melting too....and the switch is the ground! power for the fan motor is still coming from the stock plug and i just ran a ground to it with a switch and the switch is still melting....i even put a fuse in the power to the fan but not the ground i made.......ANY input here would be awesome.....did you solve you're problem??
