Thread: 91 4 runner with either sr or rb?

Do u think the sr20 5 speed tranny will hold to a 4 runner running 35s 2 wheel drive. Sort of a desert pre runner. Or should I go with a rb motor and what tranny. I have only had front wheel sr motors, so don't know anything about either motors transmissions. I would put a supra motor, but I really don't want to spend 5k on a trany. They are bullet proof though, n toyota motors suck. Here in the 505 if anyone has motrs laying around

Do what I did and stick with NISSAN, and scrap that yota!! If you want a prerunner get a v8!!

Have u priced out the motor with 6 speed trans. Its close to 6k shipped. If u know where to get them cheaper please let me know

Whats wrong with the 5 speed? It would make ur swap easier, jdm gtes can be had for around 1600 and if ur really on a budget you can drop in a us GE motor and single turbo it, and with the saved money go stand alone do more research, there are a shit load of 2jz 4runners outthere im sure they didnt drop 6gs on just a swap, plus the 2jz swap would be alot cheaper and more economical than a rb. At the end of the day when something breaks your parts are an autostore away

If I go with the 2jz I'm going all out with the 6 speed. That transmission will handle anything u throw at it. I'm still leaning towards a sr20 red top. I'm not worried difficulty. Just haven't been able to really tell if there trannys will handle the abuse. If I wanted it easy I. Put a 5.0 motor n turbo that, but that's just boaring. The reason for the project is truck was given to me so I want to make it sick
