Thread: Arias piston help

I got my pistons today. I noticed there is no dot or arrow on top of them to show which direction they need to be. I flip them over, and they identical underneath no matter how i turn them. How do i know which way they need to face?

Oh btw...for those of you who are thinking "If he cannot figure that out, he has no business assembling an engine." I do not plan to do it myself. My friend owns a performance shop that has built a couple of SR20's and they will be doing it. I was just curious to know..

I'm a little confused. Which way it faces?? There are only 2 possible orientations and as long as you do them the same I don't see what difference it would make. But also I'm not an engine's guy. The only issue I could see is the wrist pin placement. It's sometimes offset to reduce piston slap but I don't think that an aftermarket piston would be doing that??

sorry for the confusion. most pics of pistons i have seen, have an arrow or dot pointing to the water pump side of the engine. that is the front i am referring to.

Yea I know what you mean I think.. you mean which of the flat spots faces which way. I honestly don't think it matters for an aftermarket piston. For an OEM piston they will be trying to reduce slap and vibrations by offsetting the wrist pin but IDK if the SR20 even has that or not. Probably doesn't matter but don't trust my opinion as truth since I'm just guessing

thanks for the reply anyway man. i imagine you are right though. if it did matter, they would have put some kind of stamp like the OEM pistons has.
