Can my block be saved?
After removing the head this morning due to a head gasket issue I found this.

Here is cylinder #4

If you look on the bottom ridge as some damage on cylinder #1 as well

Cylinder #3 also took some damage

Thanks

I think it will be fine. Normally after a hone job they taper the top of the sleeve to aid with piston installation without damaging the rings. My block had detonation marks in it on the last build that were similar to that, though not as bad. But the block looked new after a trip to the machine shop.

Does it go down the sleever or is just on top ? If it goes down ur fucked. If its just on top you can mill the head.

Stratton.

Deck and hone job will make it like new. That is if that is the very top.

Personally, I wouldn't deck it that much. I would say re-sleeve if you have a lot invested into the block (machine work, custom prep, etc.) or if its a regular ol block just replace the block

depending on what you plan to do, of course.....

With that much damage id say your piston has cracked ring lands. Ive yet to see one that bad that didnt have cracked ring lands. If you were getting any type of blow by out the breather, your piston is jacked too. Ive had one block decked and bored out to get rid of some detonation damage like that but wasnt as bad. Thats probably gonna require decking the block to the maximum amount allowed. Im sure it can be saved but a deck and bore and hone is in order. So if you want to put some oversize pistons in (aftermarket) then id say your block is still usable. 86.5mm should be plenty and a good deck job.
