Thread: B13 Tranny in 97 200sx SE-R

Hey everyone im new to the forum and just had a quick question. I just got a 97 200sx SE-R from one of my best friends for free, the only thing wrong and keeping me from driving it is that it doesnt have a transmission. It has been a nightmare trying to find the B14 tranny for the car, but i did find some luck in located a B13. My question is will this tranny work with my car, and what will i have to do to make it work? Hopefully I can get some answers, I can't wait to get this thing on the road!

B13 and B14 transmissions are identical except one key sensor that is missing on the B13 and im not sure if you can adopt it by drilling a whole or not. ( on edge of bellhousing. )



Also you will have to swap your speed sensor which is a direct swap

Thank You for the information! so if i can adopt that key sensor and i swap out the speed sensor i should be fine?

If you can adopt that sensor yeah you should be fine but I am not sure if you can or cannot. It will throw a code without the sensor as far as bolting on its 100% bolt on I have a B14 trans in my B13.

I will check the side of the tranny when I get home to see what's in that spot

The spot is there it just needs to be drilled and tapped for the crank sensor. No big deal. Also depends on what year b13 it is about the speed sensor, 93+ came with an electronic speed sensor not cable. So again depending on what year the trans is from.

As for bolting on, yes its a straight bolt on affair other than those two things

That crank sensor that the B13's don't have a spot for isn't needed either. You can leave it unplugged and it doesn't hurt or change anything. I chose that route when I had a B13 trans rather than attempting to drill for it.

If you're worried about passing inspection you are better off drilling and adding the sensor.

True, if you're in an area that checks CELs and will care about a '97. For me (and a fair portion of the country) you'll be fine without it and can save some headache. Depends on your local emissions though.

alright thanks guys! so is this drilling a difficult process? because i know in CT they are pretty strict about emissions
