coolant leak..:( SR20DET GTiR
now it only happens when the car is warmed up, my buddy & me were driving down the road a few days ago and we were like hey cool my engine is smoking! so we pulled over and i had 0 coolant in my car. the temp was raising pretty quick too so we shut it off, turned the fans on and let it cool down. i had a friend bring me some water to pour into the coolant so we could make it home (like a mile away) and let it sit the rest of the night. we went out the next morning, filled it up and turned it back on..nothing was leaking. so we drove it a few times around the block to let the engine warm up and now it's leaking again.

it's somewhere around the back of the block..we're still not 100% where it's coming from so maybe u guys can give me some ideas. we got the intake off, and it's definitely above the oil filter.

it looks like it -might- be coming out of the black hose to the right of the sensors, the 2 sensors are screwed in pretty good..but why would the engine having to be warm do anything with the hose? i'm totally confused..

also a few other questions..

what the heck is this black box on the back of the intake?

what is this plug used for? it was never plugged into anything...

on a positive note: under the valve cover looks pretty clean!

Dude that's weird I just had the EXACT same problem. Turns out one of the hoses on the water tube back there was leaking. Ordered new ones, and have had no problems since.

But yeah it wasn't leaking till it heated up, probably because once it heats up the coolant expands...

Good luck finding your leak!

Yeah, usually leaks from the big hose. I changed it before puting my motor in. The black box is the gtir vacuum manifold. Be careful because the pipe going up breaks very easily and you won't like to fix the leak.

I didn't find the original hose. I went to a local hose shop and got a piece of braided radiator hose for diesel engines.

As per request of USAPRIDE, the part numbers for the two main hoses are as follows:
14055-53J05
14055-30F00

a lot of cars will do that, pinholes or cracks in the coolant hoses will stay sealed, until the coolant gets hot enough to build pressure, then it expands the gap. My civic did it for 3-4 months before I grabbed a pressure tester and replaced the hose. It was just a tiny pin hole that leaked just enough to notice a wet spot after sitting for an hour.
