Fuel leak found - Hose replacement by tank.
Anyone else ever replace this hose?

Its the smaller one, Im thinking of either replacing just the one or the both.

Part # [17226] HOSE-VENTILATION

My car is newly boosted and I noticed a heavy fuel smell, Found fuel all over the ground towards the rear.. Today I took a closer look and found this

Anyone know the size roughly? Nissan wants $44 Looks like I can replace with the appropriate sized fuel hose.

Since this is leaking I wonder if this was causing my semi lower than normal fuel pressure and maybe my lean condition I was seeing.

yes I have done this and it is a pain in the ass. You will need to replace both hoses, and they will be stuck on the plastic tubes of the fuel pump. While you are at it you might as well replace the check valve which is 20 bucks, the o ring for the fuel pump which is like 5 bucks or so and the lines them selves. The problem is the lines are 80 bucks which is a lot of money for freaking rubber hoses but I would use OEM Nissan as they are bent and made to fit that specifically.

You will need to pull the truck material out and then crawl into the hatch and remove the fuel pump cover (10 mm screw nuts) and then the fuel pump. You will need to remove the metal clamps holding the fuel lines on and then take a razorblade and cut the rubber off where it ends at the plastic tips. Then very carefully cut slits into the welded on rubber hose and remove. The replacement is a heck of lot easier than than taking off.

Hey Jamar,

Not sure I follow what you mean about the fuel pump? The fuel pump on a B13 is in the tank which is found by removing the rear seat not the trunk. These appear to attach to the outside of the tank to the fill kneck and connected with 4 clamps. I could be missing something but thats what it looks like.

Yeah I have a NX2k and while the parts are the same the way they go together are different. There is quite a bit of rubber fuel lines in the system. You would have to pull the lines off the metal tubing but from the looks of it and if there is rust or water in the fuel from the car sitting then you could have some rust through on those lines.

Yeah this just looks like a simple rubber hose connecting to 2 metal pipes with hose clamps.. Im thinking cut the hose off, attach new hose and drive but again never did this so could be totally wrong.

no you are correct he is over complicating this process. I believe its a 5/16 fuel line hose its the same as the feed for the fuel rail and return lines.

Take old off and put new fuel line hose on. I had to do this and feed the new line through the top by the fuel pump cover. Its really simple but watch taking the old hose off because the hard metal lines are fragile from our great friend rust in the north.

Yeah, Im going to just cut the hose off with a razor and not use to much force since its old.. Now that I look at it I never saw it leak before but the area was sticky.. Maybe since its turbo now it made the leak worse and has been leaking minorly for a while.

I had a leak in the same hose that I fixed a couple weeks ago. I decided I'd drop the tank and replace all the fuel lines back there while I was at it.

Yep. It's a very simple thing. Not complicated at all. No fuel pump involved.

I don't know if it is 5/16" hose or what, but I can tell you for sure it is not the same size as any other fuel line on the entire car. It is not the same size as the fuel rail feed/return lines. It is bigger than that for sure.

On my 1994 car, I replaced the hose with new OEM from Greg V. and I believe the hose is simply a hose. No reason I paid so much for it. I'm just silly that way.

However, my local buddy Bryan has a 1992 car and he tried replacing the same hose with the same leak soon after I did with some generic fuel hose from the local parts store and he ended up finding out that on his car at least that the two metal bungs that the hose connects are two different diameters. Because of this, the hose he bought was too big for one of the bungs and he had a leak still. He ended up having to buy an OEM hose to make sure it would be the right sizes.

I'm still convinced the hose I took off my car and the one I replaced it with was the same diameter on both ends.

Just take your time and know what you're up against and you will be fine.

Thanks for the response guys, Yeah im a bit of an OEM snob when it comes to small things like this.. After a little more research I also read that the hose is 2 diff sizes on the old forum.

Ill order from Greg, Dont have time to play around this far in im ready to enjoy this thing.. This is prob the cause for lower than expected pressure ( not a ton but a little ) and maybe a little to do with my lean fuel condition the other issue was my tune which Im burning a new chip to hopefully help as well.
