Sr20 powered ariel atom
So I just got done listening to a radio show about the atom and it made me wonder if any of the people on this site....Stratton lol...had the money to buy a chassis and drop a det in it. I say to hell with the stupid drive by wire, computer game honda k20. We can make so much more torque and power.... Why has this not been done yet? Thoughts from the community?

Fail boat. The K20 is better even if you can't grasp it.

I just hate it.... You know the difference between reality and wishful thinking lol.... I have just never been a honda guy. My buddy has a civic si k20 with a custom t3/t4 turbo on it and don't get me wrong, its fast as hell but with the amount of money he has in that thing, he could have bought an ariel. My other buddy has like 3.5k invested in his 90 eclipse and it smokes the civic! I just love our engine and would like to see that happen.

Well start saving your money and in time you can make it happen.

I know right..... House first, then we can talk... I already spend enough on my current project and the wifey gives me enough trouble for that... "I know you love your car and I support your hobby, but we need to buy a house..." I would be single if I dropped 40k on an atom.

Why anyone would want to swap an sr20 for a k20 is beyond me.... Unless price per hp is the issue. The K20 can take boost on a stock engine quite well if tuned correctly. If the car is already setup for a K20, it would make absolutely no sense to me to swap to an older, less capable engine with less aftermarket support.

I like to keep things simple. All the fly by wire nonsense and emissions in that engine just turns me off. I live where emissions are nonexistent and I would just love a simple setup on a car like that. Again....did I mention that I don't even like honda.... Besides, aren't we all members cause we love our engine? I am just spinning wheels so no need to hate. I get bored if I am not working and I am on vacation this week.

It wasn't trying to be offensive, not at all. I do love the sr20 but I do know that the K series is a better engine in almost all ways besides cost effectiveness. The sr's make great power for how much they cost but the K is a better engine. I love Nissan but i don't make my decisions by brand name. That being said, it would be a fun ride with an sr, I just wouldn't do it myself.

You don't need a lot of aftermarket support to make the SR perform like a K-series. The K series is awesome tech. But the SR feels more brutal. Best way to describe it for me is: The SR is a shovelhead harley, the K is a CBR. But that doesn't mean that the K is more fun to drive.

I think it is too bad the 20VET never made it to the USA in a sentra. Hell, they could have used it in sooo many models. Rogue, Spec, Murano, Altima. It would have been a game-changer for sure. The aftermarket would have blown up around the VET engine.

I really wish the tech for nissans was as good as the K though. The QR25hr is a great motor as well. Worked out pretty much all the kinks with it. QR20VET would have been really interesting

Well, that was a tangent.

I have heard from several people that they thought the power my VET put out is vary brutal in how it is delivered ....there is just so much of it ...I drove the car tonight for the first time in a while and I lover every second of it , but as for building a Atom type car , you are going to have a ton into it and then good luck getting it plated and insured , it will be tens of thousands to get it sorted and everything working wright ...inless you have alot of know how or help , not saying it can not be done but expect to have at least 15-20K in it ...
