Tips for Resetting Cam Timing
So the race car rolled off the trailer about 3-4' with the car and gear and it seems to have caused it to jump timing.

I have read around about cam installs and timing chain/tensioner swaps but can't find a nice down and dirty way to just open up the top and reset the cam timing.....anyone give me a quick cheater way to set it?

I know about how many links, TDC etc....specific questions, can I do this with the cams in and the gears on, by just turning the cam back to where it should be?

appreciate the help.

http://www.sr20-forum.com/naturally-aspirated-all-motor/43837-how-check-camshaft-timing.html

Set crank pully at 0*. Intake cam at 10 o'clock. Exhaust cam at 12 o'clock. 20 pins inbetween.
Cant go wrong.

If you set everything as described in link. You should be fine. Turn engine a few times by hand before starting.

correct remove the tensioner and rotate the cam by hand. when your done you should have 11 links from the mark on the cam gear to the other mark on the other cam gear.

ok, but if I move it a tooth I will lose the 11 links.

yeah I just though of that. pull the slack out of the chain by rotating the motor counter clock wise and everything should line up then. I forgot when the chain is not tight the intake cam tends to sit at 1 and not 12.
