oil cooler fitment Q

I need to cut the oil filter tube down to the treads to fit my oil cooler. Do I need to remove the housing to do this? I hope not!

Not if you're smart, nimble, and dexterous.

2 out or 3 work?

only thing I am really just concerned with is filings going down the tube but I may be able to use my nimble fingers to get tape or some such back there and tape the rest.

Smart and dexterous ought to do it.

Plug/cover all the accessible oil holes to protect them from flying metal pieces (including the center hole you're cutting) and you should be golden. Use plastic wrap for the outer holes, wadded up paper towel for the center hole. Or get creative.

I would only attempt it with a dremel not an angle grinder.

Hacksaw should work too if you have access. Or a coping saw or something.

I did it with a one sided hack saw, looks like this:

Just plug the hole deep with some mechanics' towel which has oil already on it so the flakes stick to it, then do the same around the area outside the post. just make a clear cut, take your time, and you'll be fine. I did this to my highport before, no issues whatsoever.
