How long did it keep running with the flickering problem before it finally went out?

It will eventually eat your battery.......fix it now. There is a reason why the lights are setup to do that. Your electrical system is fucked at the source. Fix it, ASAP.

Funny thing that it does that. It's like the car is saying "Stop! Your battery is running out! Alternator no worky!"

Yeah the only other way those lights will come on are if your belt is gone or slipping soo bad that the alternator is not charging. You can completely unplug the battery while the car is running and none of those lights will come on if the alt is working properly and the car will run off the alternator by itself (not good to do it for more than a couple second period) but you can also use that to see if the alt is charging at all, if the car dies, bad alt again for sure.

But yes those lights are triggered to go off like that in case of a non charging state from the alt. The alternators wiring is very very simple. Not complicated at all by any means.

True, it's not complicated, but often overlooked. Prime example is the wire that goes from the dash gauges to the alt.

Not only does it supply the +12v you need for the alternator to know it can charge, but it also grounds through the alternator when it's bad. Have that wire lose some insulation from age or rubbing, and you'll get flickering lights like he described, as well as inconsistent charge voltage. All from one simple, easily overlooked wire.

Still waiting to hear what he's found, though.

So which is it?

I don't know you so I have no idea what stance you have on the subject besides the two (conflicting) statements that I see in this thread.

I rewired mine, so I think it is very simple.

More than you think is a different way of saying often overlooked. Never said complicated
