As long as the shims are even for each rocker you're good. Usually thats dictated by the valves, so my first thought is you should be fine. HLAs take up the slack.

Ok cool thanks. I got my shims and guides laid out how they came out so nothing is outta place. They just need to be wire brushed to get the burnt on oil off.

On a side note does anyone know off the top of their head what size the bolts are that hold the timing chain components to the block? I gotta get it off before I send it to the machine shop. Thanks

This i wouldn't do. Wire brush can take off material that will affect the shim balance. You don't want to go at any kind of shim with anything abrasive. Cleaning compounds/solvents and elbow grease are all I'd really do to avoid taking off any material. Shims are pretty exact in their measures.

As far as the bolt sizes, which ones are you talking about? The bolts on the block that hold the guides in have a special shoulder on them and really need to be replaced with OEM bolts. Nothing you can really find in a hardware store to replace them properly.

I think he was asking what size they are, as far as removing them. Pretty sure they are 12 or 14mm. May be wrong in both regards though.

Ah, well the ones on the guides under the timing cover are internal hex, 5mm I believe. Guys up top under the VC are probably 12mm.

Timing chain guides are 10mm allen/hex heads.

Thanks for the heads up on the wire brush. I bought some more purple power today maybe I'll let them soak in it then use a terry cloth rag for some light scrubbing. I went to my buddies work today and the bolts that hold the timing components on are 6mm.
