cold and hot start issues
hello.
i have recently purchased a mk2 ford escort with a sr20. i have owned worked escorts all my life but never anything with nissan power. i have not had anything to do with sr20's either.

its basically a stock engine (so ive been told) with a garret gt28rs turbo and a haltech f9 ecu.

the problem is. when its cold it will crank but not start. if you disconnect the hose (red arrow) and squirt some fuel in with a syringe it will start. it wont idle untill it warms up a bit. then it runs and idles fine. once hot if you try to start the motor it, again, will crank but not fire. remove the coolant temp sensor connector ( circled in green) and it will fire up.

my thinking was that the sensor was faulty and the ecu was going into safe mode and cranking the mixture up rich. i removed the sensor and the resistance seems fine.
thats as far as ive gone so far, just wondering if anyone could help,

cheers

sounds like an idle air control valve issue, will it start if you give it some gas?

Even if that sensor was faulty I am almost 100% certain the car would still start. My sensor plug for that is broken and it slipped off for a while and I never had issues starting or driving it just ran rich.
