Thread: Filling the second egr hole in header

So I am guessing that the lower hole is for a low port egr valve but I don't need it because I will use the other one. I am trying to come up with a way to plug that hole and I have been to every hardware store and parts store and even a place called fastenal that deals mainly in bolts. Welding is my last resort. Help me find a way to make this happen.

I think it is an m22 x 1.5 super fine thread. It needs to be pretty short. Is this common?

Most headers come with that plug. I'm sure someone has one they'll sell you.

You'll never believe it, but I used a steel knock out plug for an electrical outlet or fuse box. It had a very minor leak for a day or two, and then I think it carbon sealed itself. Cost me a quarter at my hardware store.

I tried this because nowhere local had anything with the proper thread size. First one popped out, after I got a better size and squeezed it in nice and tight, never had any issue. That plug is still in there several years later now.

Huh..... Interesting. Are you from the south? I thought only us rednecks could come up with something like that. Well done to you sir. I will keep that one in my head in case I can't find the right bolt. Am I right about that being for a low port egr? I am new to this stuff and it would be cool to know I am learning something.

Haha not the south, but SE Ohio... definitely a lot of redneckin' going on out here too. Keep it in mind for a last resort I suppose. I would imagine in a town like Knoxville you ought to be able to find something.

If you cant find a bolt go to a welding shop and get the hole welded up, not like ur goign to use it anyway if your looking for a bolt for it.

I have thought about both getting it welded and having a machine shop make a bolt for it. As far as welding is concerned I am just worried about having a solid weld in that tight spot and the ceramic coating. I would much rather have a bolt but I have until next weekend when I put a new clutch and flywheel in and the new header since I have to drop it anyway.
