Thread: Hood pins....

I really like the Quick-Latch stuff too. I'd consider them if my car wasn't already drilled for Sparco slide latches.

I am really tempted to get some of the Q-L Minis for the trunk on my rally car though. At $22 each, they're actually quite cheap.

Why not to get carbon look aerocatch, they look nothing like carbon

I know there were a lot of problems with old CF hoods. Is it really necessary to run them with the newer hoods?

Now that I am in the market for a hood and trunk this is something I need to add on the list.

Shawn with the latches you are talking about I thinks it's safe to say that th OEM latch would not be needed. Keep in mind when you release the OEM latch the hood pops up. With the pins you are thinking about they pretty much work the same way. What I am getting at is that they may fight eachother.

I don't know, but even if they fixed it... I wouldn't run the risk. SR20Racer had his hood fly up and smash the roof in a bit on his B13.

I'm running the Sparco hood pins on mine. They work great. I just use them as a little insurance in case the latch snaps off the hood. My car has roof damage already because the hood flew up on the previous owner and destroyed his Fiber Images carbon/red weave hood. I know Jamie had a carbon fly up on him before and also destroyed his hood.

$85 for locking set of hood pins. Not sure where these high price #s are coming from.

And with any set of hood pins, if you don't install them correctly, of course they are going to bind and jam up. Aerocatches also require lubrication before installation to maintain functionality.

I like that price, but my decision is not price-dependent. I want the very best solution for a street car.

I highly doubt that Happynole installed anything incorrectly. He is quite knowledgeable and very picky about his ride.

I may buy 2-3 sets of expensive hood pins (Quik-Latch, Western Motorsports, etc...) and then discuss (measure, eyeball) with my body shop while having the hood pin sets in my hands. No kidding. I am not screwing this up, nor having a half-assed solution. If I have to blaze this particular trail, so be it.
