Sr20Det History
found some interesting info on a other forum i frequent thot i would post it up for you guys aswell
Dating back to the CSP311 Silvia of 1965, Nissan launched the S13 Silvia to an appreciative Japanese market way back in 1988. Three years later, both the Silvia coupe and the 180SX hatchback sister vehicle underwent a major upgrade. The then-new 153kW SR20-DET powerplants, sporting red rocker covers and a T25G turbo, were chosen to replace the original CA18-DET engine.
Then the release of the S14 200SX, with variable cam timing (VCT) on the inlet camshaft. These engines are identified by the black rocker covers now sloping towards the rear of the engine. The S14's Sr20-DET now used a T28 turbo, different wiring loom, ECU and a revised version of both the cylinder head and inlet manifold. The S14a upgrade of 1996/1997 introduced many changes, the ECU was changed a couple more times and the head lights, tail lights, bonnet, rear panel, front quarter panels, sideskirts and front bar were all changed to
create a far more aggressive shark-like appearance.
Later examples had larger injectors from the S15 and a ball-bearing version of the T28 turbo.
The final 184kW S15 with a six speed gearbox and the stiffest bodyshell yet, had little or no more power than the S14a which, at 147kW, still made less than the Japanese equivalents thanks to the higher octane rating of fuel in Japan. Sadly, emission regulations killed the S15 in 2002.
Part1 - still fuel efficient and street legal:
Strengths:
Being light-weight, an easily-tunable suspension layout, well-proportioned chassis with decent weight distribution, wide stance and room for meaty rubber all mean the S1x (S13, S14, S15) platform is capable of doing whatever you ask it! The turbocharged 2.0-litre SR20-DET engine is a stout little unit that can support over 250 (rearwheel) kW on stock internals.....
