Thread: steering pump whine, valve, and what the *#*$&#(

my power steering hose blew, so I replaced it, so the chicken or the egg... was the pump going bad which caused the hose to blow? I got a new hose, and hooked it up, and the only thing I can think I did wrong was install that little valve incorrectly... I put the spring in first, and then the cylindrical valve screen side first in and then bolted everything back together...

Any ideas?
