driver side axle not going in all the way
so i put a lsd trans in my gf's p10 an its been leaking gear oil for a while, not very much at a time unless on a steep incline.

i was at danfivetens an his driveways steep an i noticed it leaking so i got under there an its coming from the drivers axle.. so i grab the axle an gave it a tug an it came partialy out an gear oil started pouring out.. so i shoved it back in an Clank then i did it a couple more times in an out clank clank clank So it sounds like its going all the way in, but even when its "all the way" theres still a kinda abnormal gap compared to my car or friends cars..

YES i "Ordered" a 94 g20T drivers axle from rock auto, it is longer on the trans side then the stock open diff axle.. in fact heres a pic

so obviously its the much cleaner axle, and i cant tell if that little metal clip is on there in the pic or not.. would that cause the slipping out issue? im assuming so..

OR did those bastards give me the wrong axle??

i have a se-r inner part i wonder if i could swap it on there incase the inner part on this one is to long or something..

anyway TIA

looks right, im with you on that metal clip. Would cause it to leak on corners and you'd get some funny steering issues and driving noises with that circlip missing as well. I cant tell if that clip is there either. If it "clanked" in and out that easily, im thinking it's not there or if it is, it's collapsed.

Well it looks like the clip is on there, but I'd def check. I had a prob with my DS axle as well. I installed the seal too deep so it wouldn't seal. If your axle is banging around, it may be hammering your axle seal into the case. It's supposed to sit flush, so that may be the reason for the leak there.

I also recently installed a lsd tranny in the G20, but the driver side lsd axle I got was shorter overall than the non-lsd axle and it had a cup to protect the axle seal just like the one on the non-lsd. I don't see it on yours. When the axle is fully seated/in, the cup should be in contact with the seal.

To fully seat the driver side axle on the lsd tranny, it has to line up with two splines, the diff spline and side gear spline. They are independent from each other. One trick get them to line up is to rotate the axle a little at a time so the side gear spline can line up with the diff spline. Once they line up give the axle a good shove. You might have rotate the axle several time.

hmmm i've never had issues with axles that didnt have the cup leaking or getting them in.. out is always a pain in the ass it seems like.

i think the axle may be a TAD shorter over all but the piece that goes Into the trans is longer..

when i get this mother trucker apart i will post some more pics, i checked the old axle an it has the c ring so if this one doesn't i will swap it on

ok back with updates!!

so yep the C ring was missing so i swapped the one from the old axle and put it back in, now its tight as a tigers ass! also the major clunking that i could feel under my feet when i turned left an right is gone

heres a pic for reference

the ring was swapped after the pic was takin fyi

also i put cardboard under the car to see if its going to leak tonight, i also put 3/4 of a quart of redline in, gonna get another quart just to be sure tho

Yeah the clunking sound is when the axle is trying to come out of its position. I was gonna say either you didnt get it snapped in all the way sometimes it takes a good whack or the c-clip is missing not holding it in the trans.

Glad its fixed.

That and the axle spraying it all over everything is not cool, not cool at all. I hate the smell of gear oil and dirt just attracts to it. lol I hate cleaning up gear oil off crap.
