Stalling in gear - 2000 Sentra SE w/sr20de
Interested in buying this Sentra. Sometimes it drives fine. Sometimes in 1st and 2nd gear, starts to stall/chug. Not sure if it's happening in other gears. Shift into neutral, rev it, then kinda works.

Any ideas?

does it happen right when u put it in gear. or when your driving and coming to a stop. or when your driving? when u have the car in gear it wont start btw, only in park and neutral it will

is it an automatic? i forgot to ask..

1: engine might need some serious tune up
2: transmission might have issues (lockup solenoid might be sticking or malfunctioning).

i had a 20001 stratus and it would hesitate and sometimes shut off when coming to a stop. and it was a bad lockup solenoid..

Engine is fine. If it's in neutral, it will rev all the way to redline.

I'm positive it's a tranny related issue. Just don't want to buy it if it's a bad tranny.

It happens after driving for a little bit.

Yea mabe tranny issue. My old stratus did the same once oil was hot. Do this before u buy. Sample the engine and transmission oil. And they will tell u what's really going on inside. I did this on my Used 300c before buying it, and had normal contamination and bought it.

Hard to sample the gear lube. It's a 5 speed manual.

Take the plug out from the filler hole and get it like that

Oh if it's a 5 speed it's something else. When it's in 1st gear does the car feel like it wants to move? Could be bAd clutch or poor clutch engagement, could be that the clutch is still riding when engaged. A manual box shouldn't cause that type of issue. Unless like i stated above.

If its a 5 speed, im not thinking the trans is gonna make it stall while its in gear like that. I would say it needs a tune up or an important sensor is on its way out. I know sometimes my O2 sensor causes my car to buck in gear and run like garbage when its real humid out.

That's what I'm thinking. But, when you shift into neutral you can rev the engine to redline without any problems?
