Thread: crank but no start

Ok. The car is running and driving strong. Then suddenly stops.

Now engine cranks, fuel pump primes, but no spark and plugs are dry, I'm assuming no fuel.

Now where would you start. What fuse or disable link would go but allow fuel pump and crank while no spark orfuel.

Ill be going back to look at the car later. Curious what direction the experts would lead me... thanks

I have to figure this out because not only is the car in some parking lot but I've got more dyno time scheduled for this weekend.

Wow, with the $ you got into that engine I hope you have your ride clubbed or something?!? Wouldn't want to see bad things happen here!

Check the dizzy, take it out leave the connections on and turn it by hand. The injectors should click.

I'd check the dizzy too, maybe the rotor is off

Is there fuel getting to your rail? Seems like if it just quit and no spark or no fuel spraying into the motor that it would be your Eng Control Fusible link in the bay. That supplies your power for your ecu and a lot of the stuff on the motor like the coil and so on. Inspect the fusible links carefully.

You say you can still hear your fuel pump priming though?

If no fuel is at the rail and you hear the pump, maybe your out of gas and your gauge is not working. Or something is wrong with the pump.

Yea that's what I was hoping too. But I checked before I left. The rotors still on and tight.

Yeah pump is priming. And I e got full fuel pressure. Just doesn't seem to be injecting. Along with no spark. I guess I'm stumped why the fusable li k would go just out of the blue. Ill deff check those out. But if the main fusable li k blew would the pump still prime? I'm really not all that familiar with them.

Pull the rail and turn the dizzy by hand with the key on.

See if you get spray from the injectors. Sounds like a dizzy or ecu.

The ecu has 2 main power one comes from the ecu relay that sits on top of the ecu, the other from the main engine control again that supplies your ecus main power. So yeah your ecu would still trigger the fuel pump but you wont have any coil power and wont have the power for that side of the ecu.

Sometimes the fusible links just get old and brittle and end up breaking. If you put another one in and it pops shortly after then there is a short somewhere in that circuit. That circuit is the black w/red stripe wire that goes to the ecu, to the coil, and a couple other accessories. Sounds like you lost that power. Easiest way to be sure of it is to take a voltmeter and check to see if you have 12v power to your coil on the black w/red stripe wire. If not you lost your voltage supply.

My bet is on that 25 amp fuse for engine control. I believe its a tan fuse. Have to look at them closely as well to tell they are broken. Again should be fairly easy to figure out

And like they said, if all your power checks out good, more than likely you are not getting your trigger from the distributor. Check that by removing and slowly turning it with the key in the ON position and listen for the clicks of the injectors. If your not getting any then its more than likely the distro. Again if you have power to the injectors and your coil. That would be the easiest way to go about. First step check for injector and coil 12V positive.

If there is voltage, next step take off distributor and rotate to listen for clicks of the injectors and so on.

If no voltage, more than likely your fusible link is the problem.
