Thread: 0-60 question

...I have a coworker from Chile who is obsessed with this BS 0-60 time... in TX we have way too much road and don't do stop light to stop light racing. I tell him get over the 0-60 time and focus on the 0-120 MPH. Seriously if you're intrested in 0-60, buy a bike and win every time. nuff said.

0-60 is an interesting time, made very popular by the car magazines.

Maybe because on launch you get the g-forces pushing you back in the seat?

I like to see the 0-60, passing times (50-70) and the quarter mile times. It lets you know a bit more about the nature of the powerband, launch and traction.

No one said it. It's just that 0-60 is retarded, and the obsession has caused makers to ruin many a factory sports car.

Is that because the manufacturer gears the car to clear the quarter in 2ond?

It's mostly because they gear 2nd for above 60 (or above 62) MPH to eliminate a second shift during the 0-60 run on what would otherwise on many cars be a two-shift affair if the engineers had their say instead of the marketing department.

i wasnt stop light racing, i was just curious because i havent had a chance to go to the track. im thinking ill go to street heat soon and beat up on some loud civics and crx's. on the nx1600 trans 2nc revs out at around 50-55ish. on my old sentra trans it was around 65.

For your car I would guess 0-60 in 8.3 seconds and a quarter mile in 16.4 @ 81MPH assuming the car is running good and you are at least decent at driving. Let us know if you go to a track.

When it stops to pull, shift to the next gear, once there is no more force pulling the car, shift, you'll feel it not accelerating since you're reached peak power. 1st gear to redline, 2nd gear, shift when there is no more pull, 3rd same, and ride 4th to redline.
