Thread: best way to aim headlights???

so ihave searched and searched and found lots of info but do any of you guys have any easy simple ways to aim Projector headlights???

i just did the VW mk3 mod on my nx and the beam pattern is fcuked....its way wierd...and ina few days im putting hids in if i can get them to aim properly......


the drvrs and pass side cutoff is weird...ive never seen it like this on any car...but its flat then angles up???

thats how the cutoff is on the oem tsurus also. i kinda like it because it is a sharp cutoff not the blur you get with the stock lights. you should still be able to use the headlight beam aiming procedure in the fsm

anyone else try this 25 feet away thing with the marking on the wall???

The cutoff on the passenger side is SUPPOSED to be flat, and angle up, towards the right if you're sitting in the car. This is for safety reasons. The reasoning behind is is so that you have a better peripheral (sp?) view of the side of the roadway, where signs are placed, as well as other objects such as parked cars, people on bikes, running, etc.

The driver's side may be the same way, but shouldn't be as pronounced. You obviously don't want it angled in that you'd blind oncoming traffic, to your left.

the tsurus cutoff is __/ __/ both headlights look to be the same cutoff pattern to me. both angle up and to the right. i havent been flashed yet and i think mine are aimed too high because the high beams dont illuminate the front of the car when they are on.

This is how I aim my headlights in my NX. It's what Nissan suggests in the manual.

man i work for nissan.....my ass just pulls up to my bay door and aim them as i see fit. i personally think parking 25 feet away, marking the wall/door then adjusting is a waist of time. i spent 5 minutes on my own lights the other night and they are now perfect. iv done it a bunch and had the same bay for nearly a year now so i guess after test driving the first few then adjusting then test driving i pretty much know were i should have it.



the easiest/fastest way would be to find a nice level road and turn on your low beams. adjust them until they lay on the road correctly.

Park the against a nice flat wall, make a mark on the wall where the center of the high beam hits, then back up straight 6 foot or so and aim the lights at the marks. If they are massivly out, then you may need to do it again to get them spot on.

I always use a shopping center basement parking lot at a low traffic area, laser level will be very helpful.
