Thread: Cleaning the MAF?

So I'm reading the can of CRC MAF cleaner and it talks about taking screws out...anyone know if I'm supposed to take these two phillips screws out and spray shit inside that black box? I did a couple searches for how to's and found nothing.

Nah, just spray the filament.

I do not know, heard you can use brake clean but it only matters if you spray it and it breaks. If I use CRC MAF cleaner spray and if it breaks my MAF I can thus claim the MAF from CRC, make sense?

He is using the crc maf cleaner, it says it in his post. He is just asking id he should take the screws out and spray inside there.

Yes brake cleaner (non chlorinated) is fine, I have used it many times. It's not harsh enough to hurt anything, but I still try and blow all of it off the plastic parts just so it isnt sitting in a puddle on the plastic just in case. Now carb cleaner, I would not use.

Used the crc, but they were pretty clean actually. Surprising for a 135K car...now if only the MAF had been re-grounded before:P

I clean my MAF hotwire every oil change. It makes a difference. That wire heats up and cools constantly and it attracts minute particles of crap which inhibit the wire from getting a more accurate reading.

Take off the two screws holding the MAF unit inside, pull it out and spray the filaments. Do not wipe them, just spray, allow dry, and re install. Enjoy the new throttle response and better gas mileage.

I use electric components cleaner and it does the job
