Trans switch install assistance
Hey guys can someone look in their fsm and see if there is some kind of sealer that should go on the threads of the reverse and neutral switches??
TIA

If there is, the sealer would be (Permatex) Ultra Grey RTV. I don't know if it calls for any. It probably does. I used some anyway. I would highly recommend it. Just do it.

finally found it. Says to apply sealant. I'm gonna go with ultra grey. These bastards leak like crazy in every sr20 I have ever owned! They even leak in my SV

I believe they leak through the switch body eventually. Not around the threads. At least that's the common failure mode I believe. Eventually your new ones will leak through the switch body too I bet. It takes about 10+ years though so you're good for a while.

Yes you said it right. Mine and all others I've seen are like that. I also put permatex on mine just because, and my drain plug as well.

both mine are leaking out the body . Shock proof can be pricey to replace a pint every two months .

Just order you some new ones from GregV. They should be $40 roundabout for the set. I know he quoted me less than $18 for the neutral switch. Also I've found an easy way to remove them if they are seized. Cut the wires at the sensor body and use a 3/4 deep socket. It worked for me. If your switches aren't trashed and you have to do that you can always just resolder the wires back on.

Oh, and don't be a dumbass like me. Drain the tranny first! lol. or be prepaired to get pissed on in the face by your tranny.

AHAHA been there done that, except it went in my ear! That happened a few years ago...so I have learned. The FSM says to put sealant on the threads, so I did. No leaks as of yet (Ian crosses his fingers). Now to tackle the other stuff...
