Rear hoses?

I agree. The rear hoses under the intake manifold would create that sort of leak, and they're a pain to check and replace in the car. As such, they'll likely be the original hoses and prone to cracking, especially if the engine got overheated during this debacle.

The water pump could do this too, and that's easy enough to check. There's a weep hole on the front of it you can check for leakage. If it's leaking, you're going to need a new pump.

If you blew a hose and the symptom in goofy idle or dying upon start you could have done several things:
coolant got in the maf
coolant got in the tps
coolant got in the distributor cap
I have noticed that every time I go to clean the throttle body the car will run the exact same way you are describing. (Because the MAF is unplugged)
As for the leak...check what they said and also check that damn little bolt that goes into the block on the front where you drain the block during a coolant flush.
