Intake length...Does it matter?
Since going with an n60 maf on the ve. It looks like I need to cut it again to fit the filter in. Keeping the battery in the stock location.

So my question is... if I cut it down another inch to get the filter in will it be an issue?

I don't see what difference an inch would make.

Well took some off originally to fit the filter but now I've had to take more off.

I would just stick to the basics. Smooth bends and transitions, and make it as free-flowing as possible. You should be good with no more than you're removing.

The shorter the intake tract, better high-rpm volume. The longer the tract, better lower rpm volume.

I do plan on putting the battery back in the trunk and then getting another intake tube. Just looks cleaner that way. Thanx for the info.

Generally speaking a longer intake before the throttle body can boost mid-range torque a bit, but 1-2" isin't really going to make a difference.

With your small discrepancy or 1-2 inches, no, not really.

I have noticed when I remove half the section in my intake system, the throttle response is better and low-end power seems to come up a bit quicker.

When I put the full intake system on and have my filter down low in the bumper, I noticed better high-end, big revving power gains, but I lost some crisp throttle response and the low-end was more sluggish. Since I daily drive, I took off the second half and have the filter behind the battery in the engine bay.

Now my post contradicts what another member just posted, but your experience may vary.

The engine will breathe the amount of air it needs to as long as it can get it. How that air gets there is the important part, smooth bends as vital.

I also use an E60 MAF, but I did not have to cut anything in my system to have it fit behind the battery. It is a Place Racing 3 inch intake system.

I think 24" from tb to end of maf is ideal for VE. Charles wrote a whole thing on it years ago but I believe he deleted it from the old forum. There may still be info around but searching for 'intake' is pretty useles. I wouldn't sweat it if you have to chop it to fit. Maybe try one of those shorty filters if it really concerns you.
