I would not run a paper gasket on anything over 300 whp personally. I had a 360ish whp 240sx for 2 and half years and never had any issues with it when I sold it but if you have luck with paper gaskets then have at it.

I was talking about the the synchro whining thing, the sr trannies all do it. My 240 does it, the nx does it, of course it could be from lugging around 200+ lb fat asses all day but they and all my other buddies 240s do it. A 350-360 whp 240sx is fast, very fast. If it hooks right you are looking at a high 10 low 11 second car. Definitely worth the effort if you do it right. I smoked GSXRs with mine.

fortunately my friends all weigh less than 200lbs (: haha. My tranny doesn't make any noticable whinning...however it is incredibly hard to hear over solid motor mounts.........but this is why im looking to push 360whp. hooking on a launch is still in the realm of possibility, but its more than enough power to still have fun with.

I'll put up more questions when i have them. Thank you again for the information

forgot to add mine was a VTC + GT2871R while not a full VET it still kicked it up more than a regular SR + GT2871R

what does VTC mean? VET? i recognize the sr20det as an alloy block 2.0 liter dual overhead cam electronic fuel injection turbo, but i am not savvy as to what the other acronyms mean

VTC on intake cam only came on SR20DETs from the s14a models koukis

The VETs were only on JDM X Trails but some people here and elsewhere will take a VE head and turbo it thus making a VE-T

They are the ultimate SR turbo combos and I thought about doing it but from what I understood it would require some firewall modifications making me not so happy about trying to do it. The VTC on the intake cam helps with torque quite a bit but not quite as good as what a VE with variable cam timing on intake and exhaust can do. Several VE-Ts get up into the 500-800 whp marks with ease.

VTC stands for Variable Timing (Camshaft). So VTC engines have variable cam timing/phasing. But not variable valve lift.

"VET" is short for SR20VET. Looking up the letters on the Nissan naming scheme (that I basically overhauled months ago) shows this is a variant for the SR20 engine with variable valve lift. It is Nissan's answer to Honda's VTEC. And it has the "T" so it has a turbocharger.

Another random question.

I have a fellpro HG and arp studs. Is this all i really need to push more boost (18psi?) on a stock sr motor with an s15 turbo and expect it to start up every day?

I just heard from a shop that the s15 turbo's dont really "wake up" until 18psi...

again i'm not trying to track this car at all, but more so just know that my car can take ANY little honda kid who thinks their b16 2nd gear is insane lol

The pressure you run can vary. The S15 turbo is basically a ball bearing version of the GTi-R turbo. It won't like to flow much above 300 WHP worth of air. If that is 18 psi, then fine. Alternatively, I've about maxed mine out at 11 psi.

^^^ Yeah but Ben, wasn't that (maxing out at 11psi) because of "where" you wanted your power curve to be after tuning (read: mostly up top)??

I would not run that turbo with that much boost daily, that will cause a lot of unwarranted heat which the paper hg will not like. Keep it at lower boost levels most of the time and only raise it when you get the urge to have some "fun". Either that or get a larger turbo that can make the power you want at lower boost levels, which will be more reliable.
