OK, bad news: it happened again. Granted this clutch more than doubled the miles the last one had, but it still happened. I'd like to dismiss it as a reason not to use ACT clutches, but there are plenty of guys here with ACTs that have had zero problems. So what the hell is causing this?
In a day or two the trans is coming off, and I'll check the flywheel then also. I do have a spare, so I can talk about machining that before diving in and just replacing the existing. Will, you might be on to something with that as I never actually paid that much attention to the flywheel, but based on all the discussion lately it makes tons of sense.
Any other thoughts? There are only a few things I can think of that would cause clutch splines to be stripped away by the input shaft. The flywheel thought is that the clutch is too far toward the engine and that taper on the input shaft slowly works it's way through the clutch. I thought alignment, and replaced everything that affects it last time. It did help, both in longevity and reducing noise. Plus, having this on 2 transmissions makes me shy away from a diagnosis of a bad transmission.
Thoughts, anyone? I'm set to put in a new disc and my spare flywheel, what else should I check other than the obvious (already will be checking flywheel step and surface, and input shaft for play, also replacing TOB and clips with OEM).
