Thread: Clarification on chain block

was hoping the chain block would help so the chain doesnt fall when i go to remove the head...

Is that right, or will it not work since the block sits in the head and not in the front cover?

If you do not want the chain to fall, just make sure you constantly have something keeping tension on the crank gear and it will be fine.

Would the chain block work, or is it not low enough?

I really couldnt tell ya, I never took the head off so anything I tell you is what I see in diagrams in the FSM and could very well be a load of shit.

my chain fell and i massacred the two guides trying to get it back up. oh well you live and you learn huh?

I want to say it won't sit low enough, though it might, it's been a long time. I am pretty sure there are photos in a cam install writeup somewhere here or the old forum.

are you trying to use the wood block to hold up the chain while you pull the head? It wasn't really designed for that, only to hold the chain while swapping cams. It works great for cams, I have one in my tool box. You'll have to report back on wheteher it works for the head.

would any one recommend a certain type of wood? (pine,poplar,cedar)

Would it be possible to leave in the tensioner or should it be removed?

I made 2 last time I made them, if I can find the other one and for the cost of postage I'll send you one
