cable driven speedo question?

How would I know if my speedo cable is broken? Would that cable its self be in two or what? I know that the cable its self can slide out of the black casing that it sits in.

I believe you'll have to take it out and just see if it slides out of its "casing" or if when you turn one end if the other does also.

It shouldn't. I'd go ahead and get a new one, mine did that and just ended up getting spit out of the tranny.
