Here's my question. I am doing a swap into my base model 98 1.6 Sentra. I am putting in a 96 SER Motor. I am using a 98 SER Harness along with a 96 SER ECU, the intake manifold, evap lines and vacuum lines are all 96. I cannot use the 96 Harness because of the different under dash plugs. Will the car run correctly using the 96 Motor, 96 ECU and 98 Harness. My other dilemma would be figuring out how my evap canister will hook up because the 98 Canister is on the rear of the car but the 96 cylindrical canister is mounted inside the engine bay. I need my lines hooked up and running correctly so I can pass emissions. Your Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not sure if thee 98 1.6L harness is going to work, or not. I know you can use the existing 98 SR harness, and go with an older 95~97 ECU, all you need to do is modify a few wires, and change the rear o2 sensor to the pre 98 sensor.

Sounds like you have a bit of a delima, as far as emissions lines go, though. Pre 98's obviously have the canister in the bay, which IIRC can be bypassed. the 98 is a bit more tricky, as the purge valve sits on top of the intake manifold, and is part of the evap system. I don't know, but I'd think you'd need a 98 year model intake manifold?

Anyhow, I'm sure someone that's dropped an earlier model SR motor into their SE SE-L would be able to assist you, as far as emissions go.
