Thread: Convert Sprung to Unsprung?

Had a dowel pin come loose on my flywheel and it seems to have damaged my brand new stage 4 6-puk sprung clutch disc.

The metal "lips" that hold the springs in place got a bit damaged, and now the centre part of the clutch has play in relation to the puks (outer portion of clutch).

Since the clutch has done less than 300 miles, I don't want to throw it in the bin. So my question is can I take the springs out and have it rivited together to form an unsprung disc instead?

I'm not 100% sure but I think it would be too hard to balance the clutch.. Maybe if you spot weld the springs in or something?

No, I would not recommend that at all. You can get an unsprung disk for like 70 bucks or so new. Just spend the money and get something that is made that way.

Now if your asking as temporary, if you have blown out springs, you can put it back in with missing springs but chances are another one will blow out or the problem will worsen. I had this happen with a spec clutch disk back when spec first came out. Their clutches were crap back then and they have improved them significantly. I threw the disk back in because it was my daily driver and I had a replacement on the way. Lets just say i ended up doing a clutch job 3 times within a 2 weeks because the rest of the springs blew out and i put it back in with none and it lasted till the new disk arrived.

So yes it can be done but i hope its a temporary and by that i mean easy driving temporary solution.

Right now I'm running a stock Valeo clutch disc with the CC pressure plate.

Importing clutches here are expensive. Think the kit cost me $520 US.

Let me ask this rather:

What would be a good disc to replace this with? Are unsprung clutches really that bad for street use?

Will an ACT unit be better and will it work witht he CC pressure plate?
