Pacesetter Short Shifter Question
I'd like to order a new shifter boot from Redline but don't know the size I should order. My question to the Forum is, at the lowest setting, how many inches lower is the Pacesetter short shifter compared to stock? I'd prefer folks with first hand knowledge. Thanks in advance for your help....

I have the pacesetter sts...it's actually not all that shorter in length from oem, it's the point of leverage that makes the throw shorter. It is adjustable too. I originally set it to the shortest throw only to find it hit the crossmember making it near impossible to shift reverse and 5th. I backed it off just enough to clear. I love it! Nothing to compare to but I know a "shorter" shifter does nothing. It's the point of leverage that needs to be shorter. With an adjustable, that point can be maximized! And if a "shorter" shifter is what you want than just saw it down, lol!

I searched SE-R.net yesterday trying to find the info. I couldn't find it. I think I recall it being about 1.25 inches shorter than stock (when adjusted to about 80% shorter throw). It's been so long since I installed mine that I can't tell you how much shorter it is. Comparing it to the stock SE-R I drove maybe 6 months ago it seems to be about 1.5 or so inches shorter than stock. Does the shift boot you're trying to get not sag down a bit into the center console? Are you trying to avoid having it sag down any at all? The stock shift boot sags a bit, and with my pacesetter the stock shift boot sags enough so that I can put my hand down there and feel the chassis. It looks normal though. Personally I prefer it to sag down and then come back up. Otherwise it looks like a silly upside down ice cream cone or something.
If you try to get it too tight, then you might have issues with sag in some gears and tugging in others. I just don't see what you're trying to accomplish? You want it to look stock? Just get a shift boot 1 inch shorter and you should be fine. Or stock length is pretty okay too. Edit: Oh you will have it at it's shortest setting? Then maybe 1.5 inches shorter than stock might be better. You could go as much as 2 inches shorter and it will work fine, but you might get a bit of the ice cream cone look going on.
Sorry I don't have any better info.

i have nothing to add to this thread but that the pace setter was the best shifter i ever had the pleasure of owning............someone should make a replica of it and start selling them again! all the other shifters made atm are wayyyyyyyy to $$ and way to short in length.

Pacesetter damn close to the same as stock check out this pics.If the pace setter is shorter, its not by much. I would guess around 1 inch.

After comparing them,I decided that moving the stock ball up is pretty much the same for and you cant beat the price.
I have had both and blindfolded,I would think you would have a hard time telling the difference between them.

Ya, I was going for a stockish look/function with regards to the boot.

Something like this is fine:

So it sounds like -1" from stock is the ticket. I was just trying to avoid having to cut it, or worse, come up too short.

Excellent info. The part about hitting the crossmember is most useful. I'll have to pay attention to that when I install it. Thanks.
