Has this ever happen to anyone????
I go to start my car the other day and all I here is grinding to the max!!! No Whining jus grinding.I can tell the starter is turning but its not starting the car.So I figure it was the starter or maybe the flywheel was stripped......I link up with my dude Andreas Miko to get a starter......Thanks Drea.So I head up to kev a.k.a Kevwal's shop and he installs the starter. We drop the car down from the lift to start it and guess what, its makin the same noise but this time the car starts. So we figure its got to be the flywheel, so we get the car back up....get the starter back off to feel up the flywheel. And sure enough the flywheel ring gear had completely broke off from the flywheel.WTF!!!!!! Picture soon to come after flywheel install.

Overall the car runs great, I jus don't know what the dude I brought it from did to cause that.

I had an RX8 that the guy f'ed up the clutch so bad it separated the ring from the flywheel. It was pretty funny to diag cause I was looking at the engine hearing the starter turning but watching the drive belt do nothing. When we pulled the clutch you could turn the ring by hand. The car only had 29k on it but the clutch was down to the rivits And the guy didn't want to pay for a new clutch, he didn't have to pay for the flywheel cause some how it was covered under warranty

ive seen it happen on aftermarket flywheels. But i guess anything is possible. The ring gear is only tack welded on in about 4 spots around the flywheel so yeah I could see it happening.

Pretty common, not on sentras though. I sell flywheel ring gears at my job like mad, mostly fords.

impact gun to put on flywheel usually causes ... compressor had minimal charge on the last 2 bolts when installing flywheel.

i notice this only when people use compressor guns to put on flywheel bolts.. i use torque wrench religiously on that and clutch.

Amen. Don't forget about bolt stretch.
