If it broke at the hub it would move. Its broken just inside the transmission which is the weaker part of the axle. You will have to remove it.

Next time this happens, don't drive the car at all. Push it. I know you said the car still moved, that's because of the LSD; which will burn up if you drive it at all with a broken axle.

Same reason why if you have a flat on the front and have to use a donut, you need to put the donut on the rear and use the rear for the spare up front. you will ruin your LSD by leaving the donut up front.

Even though it's a vlsd it will still burn up? I didn't even think about the having a flat thing. Thanks for that knowledge.

I will put money on it. Been doing this for a long time.

If the clutch still operates fine and its not making any noises when it just free revs and it tries to move slightly when in gear, that is the vlsd trying to do all the work and it cant really move the car. You lost your main drive axle, passenger side. Your trans is fine.

I've broken 4 axles, and each time it was the passenger side. They brake right inside the diff, and the axle seal holds the axle up so you can't see its broken.

Ding ding ding, what do we have for him johnny. hahah

Ive been doing this a long time. I personally have never broken an axle in the diff but ive had friends that did and i knew exactly what happened. Plus the countless breaks on this forum and the old forum. The one axle that ive broken was at the hub and that was on an 8k rpm launch on slicks and dead hooked.

That was my exact thought as well, that the axle broke (see the second post in this thread).

Over here, the car wouldn't move at all with a broken axle (open diff), but with a LSD, you'd still be able to move.

Imma get better axles in the future...

I still can't believe the axle snapped. I feel like that's a very thick piece of metal to snap that's pretty crazy. This seems to happen pretty often. Other than not racing is there any good way to prevent this?

Wheel hop kills axles and transmission cases even more soo. You are lucky you didnt crack your case and that the axle gave before that happened. On my first se-r back in 2002 i was at the track after switching to some 16's with low pros and wheel hopped like crazy in first off the launch and still ran a 14.3 and then over the intercom at the track someone said whoever ran last needs to check their car because they oiled down the track. Looked under and sure enough it was pissing out gear oil. I drove the car home 45 miles. So consider yourself lucky.

Lets just say i never ran at the track on low pros ever again and went back to using my 14" wheels with falkens on them and tire pressure lowered. I did 500 or so drag passes using the 14" wheels and tires at about 18 psi and never had wheel hop.

My stock rear mount rubber ripped, probably helping to cause my axle problem. And that's with only 86k miles.

OP, get stronger axles (raxle).
