Need help with alt. Removal plz!!!!
so i have a 96 200sx se-r and im trying to get the alternator out i have belt, wires, and bolts removed but theres a bracket in the back that the alternator bolt runs throught where the alternator pivots and the bolts for the bracket seem to be like behind and underneath the alt. ive been told that the A/C compressor has to be removed is this true and advise would help

You should be able to get to the nut from underneath the car. Once it's out just push the bolt out towards the header, and your all good.

Unless in my case that bolt was put in backwards, that alternator took me 6 hours to do, had to remove the side motor mount and the cross member and used 2 jacks to get it out

You should get some of those harbor freight rachet wrenches, I use the 17mm one to get that nut off, I can get it off without the belt being removed because the wrench is flat, good luck

This is exactly it. Just like any other alternator. Remove the adjuster, remove upper and lower bolts, and it comes out with some wiggling. The bracket the alternator mounts to on the bottom doesn't need to be removed. Anyone who told you the A/C compressor needs to be taken off is confused.

thanks for the help everyone yea it was the local shop that said that but ive heard alot of ppl have been getting ripped off their thats why i wanted to do it myself but have never done an alternator on a fwd little more tricky lol

Yeah it's not to bad. I do it in about 30 min. It's a tight fit but can be done without much trouble. You should be able to pull it out right under the Rad. hose, but I always just take the water neck off to make it easy for me. The bottom mount bolt is really the hardest part, but if you get your hand in there just right you can pop it right out. Good luck man.

thanks for all the help everyone and i did end up having to remove the "water neck" but after that ended up having plenty of room
