need help.
i converted my 1993 with 9003 bulbs to 1991 headlights and now useing 9004 bulbs. currently my low beams BLOW and the highbeam indicator on the dash glows while the low beams are on. i have been reading and feel i may have wired it wrong.

i need to know the following

for the left side 9003 wireing:
b= black, chassis ground
R/Y= red/yellow, low or highbeam?
R/B= red/blue, low or highbeam?

right side:
b= black chassis ground
R/G= red/green high or low?
R/L= red/?????? high or low?

i am useing this picture as a pin out for my after market 9004 connectors:


to make things easier. the wire diagram is on page EL26 in the FSM. i am just having trouble figuring it out the wires i am interested in are connectors E11 and E18 for the SEDAN (S) not the coupe.

Black - Ground
Red/Yellow - Low Beam LH
Red/Black - High Beam LH
Red/Blue - Low Beam RH
Red/Green - High Beam RH

Lol pretty sure I posted that in the other section in your post along with the diagrams.

Oh, I think B is black and L is blue. Someone correct me if that's wrong

The one thing I don't know 100% for sure is that the high/low are not reversed. I just thought it seemed right to assume the bigger of the two resistors in the bulb diagrams were the high beams. Otherwise it's all the same as listed above but the high and lows are just switched around. You should be able to tell that with a volt meter pretty easy though.

Edit: Yea I just double checked the colors in the FSM and I was right,

B = Black
L = Blue

thank you very very much. i am buying new harness this weekend (i kinda jacked them all up from switching, and splicing in grounds) and i am starting over. i am pretty damn sure i used the center wire on my connector as the bulb ground and from the pic above the right wire is the ground.

after i have the wireing all figured out and up to par i will be switching from 9004 to 9007. only 10watts brighter in low beam, the big differance is the filiment placement. 9004 bulbs filiments are upright. 9007 filiments lay flat and spread much more light onto the reflectors. just need to swap 2 wires.

NP man, and just another addition for ya:

Looking at the switch diagram it looks like I was right in assuming the bigger ones were high beams. Just took a minute to figure out how the diagram works and in position C which is when you pull it back towards you (which turns the highs on normally), the terminals 5-6 and 8-9 are connected. On the diagram with the connectors, 5 and 6 are the power wires, and 8 and 9 are high beam wires so I am 99% sure that the above info repeated here is correct:

Black - Ground
Red/Yellow - Low Beam LH
Red/Black - High Beam LH
Red/Blue - Low Beam RH
Red/Green - High Beam RH

you know.........all of this could have been avoided if the aftermarket connectors came with a diagram its obvious 9004 and 9007 bulbs are wired differantly but a simple "for 9004 blah blah" and "for 9007 blah blah" i mean the OEM wires can be figured out with a simple prod of the test light.

i just figured if i can get what wire is what via a schematic ANNNNND test them with my DVM i can be 100% sure its correct.

^^ Pete, I agree with Danja...
Why didnt you, use your DVM to validate your existing wiring before connecting up the new plug?
I always double check for voltage using the meter.. If you have other problem, give me a call..

Im planning to come up this weekend and I can help you. But you really dont need new wires though.. I can clean up any mistakes; as I have correct gauge electrical wires..

I was going to suggest checking resistance of the bulb through the terminals (battery disconnected, obviously)

i did. however i had to use an after market plug because i was going from 9003 bulbs to 9004 bulbs. the connector didn't come with any type of instructions explaining "this wire is low, high, ground. since i just found that plug pinout from ralleylights.com i am now set and realize i have the low beam in reverse polarity hence my high beam indicator coming on all because i followed keo's advice

He did the same thing to me when I wired up my headlights!!!

You guys are nuts!! But thats good, you have it worked out.. Leave Keo alone.. He was only trying to help..

Due to the location of these wires, you must completely seal the connections using heatshrink-type connection to avoid the green rot contamination. Tape is not sufficiant because these wires will get hot from the headlight bulbs and tape glue will melt leaving the connection joint exposed to the elements causing wire rot...

Also, ALL of the wire types must match: meaning using Same Gauge wires (if the aftermarket wires are too small, they will overheat & melt) and some aftermarket wires are made of aluminum and the Nissan wires are copper. Aluminum is cheap to make, usually smaller than the original wires and are cheap to purchase.. Get it.. Cheap ! ! :o I normally get my connectors from the junkyard and clean them up...

NOTE: Connecting aluminum & copper wires together will cause a chemical resistance and wire breakdown over time unless you use a liquid binder made to offset the chemical reaction... Heat from the headlight bulbs will speedup this process and will turn the wires black at first but then over time the wires will crumble to powder internally (I see this alot on boat wiring too).. Soooooo, what color are the wires on your 9004 harness?? SILVER????
