They don't work. I wondered the same thing back when my old 91 was new. Ten years and the light never came on but you could see that the cluster had one. I want to say it is a universal cluster that Nissan used and never meant for it to operate. I was told back then that it shared the gxe cluster by the dude at the dealer. Hard to believe that was 20 years ago. Just my two cents.

it's the fuel sender. there was a tsb on them back in the day. but apperantly a lot of people didn't take advantage. you need to get a whole new sender. which sucks cause it's only availble threw the dealer.

I read up on that in the mid 90s there was a recall on them for a fuel problem. They changed the sending unit

Wow. I'll look in to this if my 92 does the same. Learn something everyday.

Mine works, but not until it reads way below empty lol.

But like it's been said, probably the fuel sender.

this happened to my 92 SE-R too. When I bought it 4 years ago I was happy that the car had that light, so I did the test as to when it wil light up... Never did I got stranded in the middle of the city with no gas and the damn light never went on...
I guess this is common on B13s then
