Yet another 5th gear pop out thread ;)
I know the cause of 5th gear pop out and before I installed this transmission today I took everything apart and inspected it with it all being good along with it being good when it was taken out of pedro's car. The rear mount has like 1/4 of the bottom rubber missing so I'm thinking either that or shift linkage... It was working perfectly fine at first then as soon as I gave it some gas it popped out... I can feel the shifter move when I accelerate/decelerate in a gear... What should I be looking for here?

You should be looking to buy the redesigned 5th gear and installing it?

Lol... I've spent almost 1500 this year on this car on unemployment... I don't have the 300+ it costs for that =\
It was working before perfectly fine and I even inspected it and it was fine and all

You can buy just the updated gear for around $175 and be done with it (reuse the old fluid) if you're on a very strict budget. There is no need to spend $300 on the entire kit. Or wait it out until you do have the money.

Blah... Is it possible to change it without actually taking out the transmission?

so this one will eliminate the 5th gear pop out problem? G Spec Performance - 5th Gear (Input Shaft)

Yes, I've heard of that being done and I can see how it could be accomplished. It will be a bit obnoxious and you may lose pieces due to gravity that you'll have a hard time finding where they go back but you could do it if you were so inclined. The only hard part is taking the half of the transmission case off and maneuvering it. It should be possible though.

I highly recommend against this method, but it should be possible. You'll still need to drain the fluid but you won't have to remove the passenger-side halfshaft I don't think.

May the force be with you.

Yes, that is really the only mandatory part that you'll need to buy. You'll have to re-use your gear selector collar (coupling sleeve) and you'll want to make sure to flip it upside down to make use of the good dog teeth on the opposite side of it. My 5th gear replacement thread goes into that part as well.

Looks like for $141 + shipping you could be in business. If you can spring an extra $15 (or whatever) for the brass synchronizer that would be the only other piece I'd really recommend you try getting. (Nissan calls it a baulk ring)

Gspec has it. He has a bazillion parts that aren't on his web site. He has it, and can get it. (It's included in his kit for example). Call him and he'll know exactly what you want and order it for you.

Courtesy has it too I would bet, but I don't deal with them. I'm 99% sure they have it. It might just be hard to find or not listed on their site.

Gspec has all the parts.

I would not suggest doing it while on the car . Do it right and drop the tranny .

Ben and I have had the discussion before on the whole Kit VS just gear an nessecary hardware .

And Truth is you could do the Gspec kit and its cheaper than the Courtesy Nissan kit.

the flipping of the gear works too but its just a matter of time before you need to drop the tranny again to properly fix it
