Thread: Door hinge alignment

Any tips on aligning a door? It closes ok and the body lines seem straight, but it hangs on the striker when opening. Apparently the fender was damaged, (which was replaced), the door was damaged, (I replaced it as well as the hinges), and there is slight damage on door frame around the striker. Any help is greatly appreciated!

you mean where the latch is screwed onto the door is damaged? does it drag on the striker on the body side when opening/closing? PICS? We're not psychics here...

Yeah, it drags on the striker when opening the door. I'll get some pics up. Like I said the damage isn't bad, but the problem arised after installing an undamaged door and tight hinges.

Yeah, you're probably right. The new door isn't molded into the damage that the frame sustained. In order for it to fit properly the body will probably have to be straightened out.

i been there dude, seen that.. when somethings mangled an you try to fix it with something new or just undamaged it tends to not fit right..

get a come along or something an a torch and try to pull that area out or back or forward or whatever the hell direction it needs to go..

I think your hinges are weaker than you think. These doors are heavy. When you accelerate or brake, do you get a knock from the hinge area? If so they are shot. Ask me how I know.

There was no play in the hinges before installing and afterwards when the door is open and I lift up on it there is no movement. I'm sure there is some but still 100% better than the old hinges that moved freely in my hands And honestly I haven't been able to drive it since I installed the new door/hinges. How do you know???

if the body lines are straight, and it will still open/close, who cares? fagetaboudit...
